Applied Plant Geneticist / Plant Breeder

Summary of position
The selected candidate will join KIS's core team of specialists in design, implementation and operation of efficient and cost-effective breeding programs for agricultural species on national and international level, and be actively involved in several key aspects of the KIS’s technical deliveries. The position is located in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Some international travelling must be anticipated.

Key Responsibilities
•   Program design and practical implementation of breeding programs
•   Evaluate and implement new technologies for applied programs
•   Perform large scale quantitative/genomic genetic evaluations
•   Reporting and documentation
•   Participation in relevant R&D work

Desired skills and experience

Required qualifications

  • PhD in the biological/agricultural sciences and of relevance to the plant genetic resources, plant breeding, plant genetics, quantitative genetics/statistics or other relevant areas
  • Extensive understanding of relevant areas of molecular genetics, experience from large scale genetic evaluations and/or analysis of genomic data is desirable
  • At least 3-5 years’ relevant work experience (or equivalent, such as e.g. time spent on relevant activities during PhD training), preferably in an international environment;
  • Preference will be given to candidates with an advanced knowledge of plant breeding, including experience with the application of relevant genomics methods and other modern breeding techniques;
  • Experience in project development, coordination, monitoring and/or management to be able to provide effective backstopping to partners;
  • Strong computer skills including good knowledge of database and genome mapping applications;
  • Excellent English written and spoken required; knowledge of Slovenian and/or other languages will be an advantage.

The Agricultural Institute of Slovenia, invites applications for a 1-year position with possibility for long term appointment at the Crop Science Department which can start on October 1st, 2016.

Research area 
The successful candidate will be working with a number of agricultural crops (mainly potatoes, cereals, grain legumes, ….) within the section of genetic diversity, crop genetics and biotechnology. In particular you will be associated with projects where we study responses of plants to biotic and abiotic stresses.

We offer

An exciting project combining agricultural sciences with plant molecular biology and physiology. Research within a network of collaboration partners in Slovenia and South East and other European countries.


Formalities and salary range
Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Slovenian Ministry of Finance and the Slovenian Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Slovenian Ministry of Finance and the Slovenian Confederation of Professional Associations.

Pravna podlaga

Podlaga za obvestilo je spremenjeni Zakon o elektronskih komunikacijah (Uradni list št. 109/2012; v nadaljevanju ZEKom-1), ki je začel veljati v začetku leta 2013. Kaj so piškotki?

Piškotki so majhne datoteke, pomembne za delovanje spletnih strani, največkrat z namenom, da je uporabnikova izkušnja boljša.

Piškotek običajno vsebuje zaporedje črk in številk, ki se naloži na uporabnikov računalnik, ko ta obišče določeno spletno stran. Ob vsakem ponovnem obisku bo spletna stran pridobila podatek o naloženem piškotku in uporabnika prepoznala.

Poleg funkcije izboljšanja uporabniške izkušnje je njihov namen različen. Piškotki se lahko uporabljajo tudi za analizo vedenja ali prepoznavanje uporabnikov. Zato ločimo različne vrste piškotkov.

Vrste piškotkov, ki jih uporabljamo na tej spletni strani

1. Nujno potrebni piškotki

Za uporabo piškotkov se odločate sami. Piškotke lahko vedno odstranite in s tem odstranite vašo prepoznavnost na spletu. Prav tako večino brskalnikov lahko nastavite tako, da piškotkov ne shranjujejo.
