Mycotoxins

Mycotoxins are secondary metabolites of fungi that can infect produce in the field and during harvest or after it. The contamination of produce with fungi (mould) does not necessarily indicate the presence of mycotoxin and vice versa (fungi can die off while mycotoxins remain), because fungi form mycotoxins only under certain conditions.

Cereals and corn become infected with the Fusarium genus of fungi in the field. In suitable conditions, fungi form mycotoxins fumonisin, zearelenone and trichothecene (deoksinivalenol, nivalenol, T-2 toxin, etc.). The Penicillium and Aspergillus genera of fungi infect samples in warehouses and can form storage mycotoxins (ochratoxin A, roquefortine C, aflatoxines B1, B2, G1, G2, etc.).

As can be discerned from the name, mycotoxins are a health hazard and as such unwanted in animal feed. Regarding their content in animal feed, the European Commission issued the Commission Recommendation of 17 August 2006 on the presence of deoxynivalenol, zearalenone, ochratoxin A, T-2 and HT-2 and fumonisins in products intended for animal feeding (2006/576/EC).

Kakovost

Analize mikotoksinov niso akreditirane, občasno preverjamo kakovost svojih analiz s sodelovanjem v medlaboratorijskih shemah.

Pooblastila

Ministrstvo za kmetijstvo, gozdarstvo in prehrano RS nas je določilo za uradni laboratorij, namenjen opravljanju laboratorijskih analiz kakovosti krme, krmnih dodatkov in ostankov pesticidov v krmi.
