The method of preservation depends on the individual plant species; samples (genetic resources) are preserved in the form of seeds or as a clone material in ex situ conditions (outside the location of collection), in situ (in nature) or in vitro (in tissue cultures). Seeds are stored and preserved in aluminium bags or glass containers in particularly adapted rooms with a constant temperature of +4 °C (medium-term preservation) or -20 °C (long-term preservation). We constantly check the germination of preserved samples, and when it drops below the critical value, we start regeneration procedure for the particular sample. We preserve potato in in vitro conditions as young plants, microtubers in a cold room and as tubers propagated with traditional propagation in a screen house or in the field. We preserve genetic sources of grapevines and fruit species in the form of permanent plantations. For all collected genetic resources, we have the so called ‘Multi crop passport descriptors’ that contain basic general data on an individual sample (place and date of collection, description of location, who collected the sample, etc.). For individual genetic resources, we have more detailed data on the characterisation and evaluation based on common descriptors for an individual plant species. The data are entered into the SRGB central bank database as well as into teh international databases (EURISCO, CSDB).
