Background: The growing need for renewable energy sources(RES) is predicted to make a bigger impact on the Alpine environment in the future. Strong impacts are already visible on changed land use, biodiversity and ecological connectivity. The main purpose of the project is to develop the tools and to construct an integrated strategy for the use and renewable energy exploitation for the production of sustainable
systems of land use, while preserving the biodiversity of soils in the Alpine region.
Objectives:
Design and implementation of environmental status monitoring.
Establishment of land and biodiversity database of abandoned agricultural land.
Construction of a web-based GIS tools for planning and management in the area.
Assessment tools for energy biomass on agricultural land.
Expected results:
Establishment of permanent state of the environment monitoring.
Determination of the impact of different intensities of biomass exploitation from forest and agricultural land on biodiversity.
Development of a GIS web tool for effective planning and spatial management.
