Our long-term goal is to contribute to increased self-sufficiency in Slovenia and the EU with high-quality and healthy food produced in sustainable agroecosystems.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p>We work in the field of diagnostics and professional research, which takes place at the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia, and we also co-operate with other professional research institutions.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Areas of work<\/h2>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Arthropod diagnostics:<\/b><\/h5>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Morphological and molecular identification of insect pests and beneficial insects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We are partners in the consortium of the National Reference Laboratory (NRL) for plant pests &#8211; insects and mites on agricultural and ornamental plants.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Preparation and maintenance of a collection of reference materials and an entomological working collection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Expert work:<\/b><\/h5>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Professional support and advice (UVHVVR, growers, agricultural advisors, general public).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participation in the implementation of survey programmes to determine the presence of plant pests.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Development of environmentally acceptable methods for the control of pest arthropods and new strategies for integrated pest management.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Preparation of risk assessments and provision of expertise.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Research work<\/b><\/h5>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Research of plant &#8211; microbe &#8211; insect interactions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Development of new bioinsecticides based on protein toxins, RNA interference or entomopathogenic fungi.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inventarisation of beneficial microorganisms and macroorganisms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conservation biological control (e.g. use of cover crops in agroecosystems).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ecology and biology of insects for innovative plant protection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use of microorganisms or parasitoids for sustainable agriculture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Members of the entomology group<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>dr. \u0160pela Modic, dr.
