It brings together researchers, breeders, farmers, seed companies, educational institutions, policymakers, and other stakeholders to co-create solutions for the future of organic production.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The laboratory focuses on developing and conserving organic and locally adapted varieties of buckwheat, wheat, potatoes, and beans. Using a participatory approach, it promotes organic breeding, variety testing, high-quality seed production, and the exchange of knowledge among all participating partners.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The KIS Living Lab has the following key objectives:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Promoting organic breeding and seed production.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Developing and preserving locally adapted varieties of buckwheat, wheat, potatoes, and beans that are more resilient to climate change, diseases, and other environmental challenges, and better suited to the needs of organic farming<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Integrating research and agricultural practice through the active involvement of farmers, breeders, researchers, seed companies, educational institutions, policymakers, and other stakeholders.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Co-creating innovative solutions through a participatory approach, in which users and experts jointly identify challenges and develop new practices, methods, and approaches for sustainable farming.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exchanging knowledge, experience, and best practices among various stakeholders to accelerate the transfer of innovations into practice and strengthen competencies in the field.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strengthening the resilience of agri-food systems so they can respond more effectively to climate, economic, and social changes, and ensure long-term food security.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promoting collaboration and social inclusion, as the living lab creates a space for dialogue, learning, and cooperation among different user groups and the broader community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through its activities, KIS Living Lab contributes to the development of sustainable, competitive, and resilient agriculture and supports the transition to more sustainable agri-food systems in Slovenia and beyond.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The KIS Living Lab was established as part of the European LiveSeeding project, a four-year innovation initiative aimed at promoting the development of organic seed production and plant breeding, thereby contributing to the transition to more sustainable local food systems. Based on scientific research and practical experience, the project develops solutions to increase the use of organic seeds and supports the goal of 100% organic seed use in Europe by 2036.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LiveSeeding brings together 37 partners from 16 European countries representing the entire value chain &#8211; from research institutions, breeders, and seed producers to farmers, processors, policymakers, and consumers. One of the project\u2019s key approaches is the establishment of living labs, where various stakeholders collaborate to identify challenges, exchange knowledge, and co-create innovative solutions for the sustainable development of organic agriculture.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project is funded by the European Union, the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research, and Innovation (SERI), and Research and Innovation UK (UKRI).
