{"id":6009,"date":"2025-03-30T19:04:07","date_gmt":"2025-03-30T17:04:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kis.si\/about-the-institute\/infrastructure\/tissue-culture-laboratory\/"},"modified":"2026-09-15T19:00:17","modified_gmt":"2026-09-15T17:00:17","slug":"tissue-culture-laboratory","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.kis.si\/en\/about-the-institute\/infrastructure\/tissue-culture-laboratory\/","title":{"rendered":"Tissue Culture Laboratory"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the Tissue Culture Laboratory, which operates as part of the Genetic Laboratory, we use plant tissue culture techniques to grow and propagate virus-free, healthy plant material under <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in vitro <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">conditions. By applying various procedures, we remove or eliminate viruses from infected plants. <\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As part of the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Genetic bank public service<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, we manage the storage of plant genetic resources (PGR). As part of the gene bank, we preserve and maintain a potato collection consisting of plants and the production of microtubers under <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in vitro <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">conditions. In doing so, we preserve collections of plant material from indigenous Slovenian varieties and material needed for breeding and developing new varieties, as well as for research.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Areas of work<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The laboratory is equipped with conventional research equipment, such as growth chambers and laminar flow cabinets.
