{"id":6021,"date":"2025-03-30T18:56:51","date_gmt":"2025-03-30T16:56:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kis.si\/about-the-institute\/infrastructure\/fruit-growing-laboratory\/"},"modified":"2026-09-16T07:01:12","modified_gmt":"2026-09-16T05:01:12","slug":"fruit-growing-laboratory","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.kis.si\/en\/about-the-institute\/infrastructure\/fruit-growing-laboratory\/","title":{"rendered":"Fruit Growing Laboratory"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Fruit Growing Laboratory is dedicated to analyses for ongoing <\/span><b>research <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the field of fruit growing, primarily on <\/span><b>apple trees <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>berries<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Within the framework of the Public Service in Fruit Growing, the task &#8220;Introduction of Apple Varieties&#8221; is carried out, during which we <strong>verify the suitability<\/strong> of certain <\/span>apple varietie<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s for the Slovenian climate. For each variety, it is necessary to check fruit firmness, sugar content, and perform a starch test, all of which are conducted in our fruit growing laboratory. Within the framework of the Public Service in Berries, the laboratory performs <\/span><strong>crop evaluation<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">using various indicators (fruit mass, firmness, diameter, and color).<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>quality of apple and berry fruits <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is also evaluated based on the following criteria: <\/span><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fruit mass,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fruit diameter,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fruit coloration,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fruit firmness,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sugar content,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vitamin C content,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maturity (starch test).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the purposes of various projects, we also perform other analyses. This includes the preparation of samples from different plant parts: fruits, fruitlets, leaves, branches, or roots.
