At the Seed Quality Control Laboratory, we perform quality analyses of seeds of agricultural plants, forest plants and flowers.
All analyses are carried out according to the methods of the International Seed Testing Association (ISTA), of which we have been a member since 1956.
Since 2005, we have been the only laboratory in Slovenia with international ISTA accreditation — the accreditation standard for laboratories that sample and test seed. We are authorised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food to sample and perform seed quality analyses for all plant species listed by ISTA.
We perform seed quality analyses for the needs of:
- domestic production by Slovenian seed companies,
- international trade within and outside the EU,
- the inspection service of the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Food Safety, Veterinary Sector and Plant Protection,
- any natural or legal person.
Areas of work
Accredited services:
- sampling of seed lots,
- moisture content,
- purity testing, including the proportion of pure seed, seeds of other plant species and inert matter,
- germination testing, including the proportion of normal seedlings, abnormal seedlings and non-germinated seeds,
- determination of seeds of other plant species in the submitted sample,
- thousand-seed weight,
- tetrazolium test, a rapid biochemical test for determining seed viability.
Other expert services:
- seed calibration using sieves, including fraction determination,
- cold test, a stress test for maize seed under low temperature and high humidity conditions,
- verification of the varietal authenticity and purity of seed material through sample preparation,
- physical quality analyses of feed samples and samples for the milling industry.
