Project description

LIVESEEDING is a Horizon Europe Innovation Action aimed at accelerating the transition towards sustainable and diverse food systems by increasing organic production across Europe.

The project focuses on improving the availability of organic plant reproductive material and organic cultivars, including Organic Heterogeneous Material (OHM), Organic Varieties and landraces, for a wide range of crops.

By promoting greater genetic diversity, developing cultivars better adapted to local conditions and strengthening the organic seed sector in line with market demands, LIVESEEDING contributes to more resilient and sustainable agricultural production. The project also supports cooperation between breeders, farmers, seed companies and other stakeholders along the organic value chain.

KIS Living Lab

As part of LIVESEEDING, the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia established its first Living Lab – KIS Living Lab, dedicated to connecting research, practice and innovation for the development of sustainable agriculture.

The Living Lab brings together researchers, plant breeders, farmers, seed companies, educational institutions, policymakers and other stakeholders to co-create solutions for the future of organic production.

More information about KIS Living Lab is available HERE.

Partnership

LIVESEEDING is coordinated by FiBL Europe (Belgium) and brings together research institutions, universities, plant breeders, seed companies and other organisations working to advance organic seed production and plant breeding across Europe.

Funding

LIVESEEDING has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under Grant Agreement No. 101059872, with additional co-funding from the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
