Background: Due to changes in the state of outflows in the border river Kučnica and its catchment area certain problems occurred associated with point source (eg. water treatment plants) and dispersed source (eg. agriculture) contamination. The poor water quality additionally depends of variable water levels caused by drought and heavy rain.

Objective: Preparation of the measures catalogue to address the water quality issues of river Kučnica and their admission or acknowledgment by the policy makers and/or water management commission.

Expected results:

• Final report of the assessment of the ecological and chemical status including documentation and data base on emissions, immissions and use of the environment.
• Analysis of nitrogen inputs from various sources, if necessary, river Kučnica catchment N-balance, assessment of contributions from individual sources and assessment of the contributions by Austria and Slovenia.
• Description of measures to improve the ecological status of the water body.
