On Wednesday, 26 October 2022, agricultural experts and representatives of local authorities of the Al Anbar province in Iraq have visited the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia (KIS). The study visit was organized by the Association of Municipalities and Towns of Slovenia and took place within the framework of the Peer-to-peer project, which encourages knowledge transfer to support agricultural development and good practices exchange with the Al Anbar province in Iraq. The implementation takes place within the "Supporting recovery and stability in Iraq through local development" program, financed by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Iraq.
The director of KIS, Prof Andrej Simončič, presented the institute’s activities to the partners. The Iraqi partners then visited the gene bank of agricultural plants and the Beekeeping Academy of Slovenia. In the afternoon, the guests visited the Infrastructure Centre Jablje where KIS employees presented to them the operation of a micro-biogas plant, a system for cold pressing oilseeds, the biodiesel production, the irrigation system, and the developmental work in the field of special agricultural machinery.
