The main objective of EJP SOIL is to create a favorable environment to increase the contribution of agricultural soils to key societal challenges such as climate change adaptation and mitigation, sustainable agricultural production, the provision of ecosystem services, and the prevention and restoration of land and soil degradation.
EJP SOIL will build a sustainable European integrated research community in the field of agricultural soil and develop and implement a plan on climate sustainable management of agricultural soil. Knowledge development will be enabled through project / research tenders with internal and external partners. The funds are also intended to strengthen the capacity of young scientists.
Knowledge transfer addresses ways to overcome barriers to the adoption of new agricultural practices in the European context, co-design appropriate tools, harmonized soil information and reporting practices, and provide recommendations for EU policies based on scientific evidence and expertise. Through the exchange and transfer of knowledge, public awareness is raised and social understanding and respect for agricultural land management and contribution to society is promoted.
EJP SOIL activities, in cooperation with stakeholders, Member States and DG AGRI, will seek to provide expert support and guidance to farmers as land and land managers, and to support the development and implementation of sustainable policies, in particular the Common Agricultural Policy and Climate Policy. EJP SOIL addresses 6 expected impacts with targeted activities in response to societal, scientific, policy and operational challenges.
