Soil Fertility and fertilisation

Soil Fertility is a soil property that enables the growth and development of plants. In order to be able to produce an appropriate crop and achieve a satisfactory quality, we must ensure adequate conditions for plant growth and development. Fertilization plays an important role in this.

Fertilization is an agrotechnical measure which allows the adequate plant nutrition and their growth and development. The purpose of fertilization is therefore to provide the plants with an adequate amount of plant nutrients.

Adequate amount of plant nutrients for plant growth and development is determinate by chemical soil analysis. By chemical soil analysis we determine the level of soil fertility based on which we advise the expert based use of fertilizers.

At the Department of Agricultural Ecology and Natural Resources we offer a comprehensive service of soil fertility control and fertilization advice to outside costumers. This includes:

  • Instructions for soil sampling
  • Soil sampling record
  • Instructions for quick nitrate test
  • Chemical soil analysis (janez.susin@kis.si)
